out the back here in our little kitchen.

We use “GREEN EGGS” Free range eggs, where
during daylight hours the Green Eggs girls are free to roam,
graze, dirt bath, forage, and rest under shady red gums.

Our butter comes from the
Murray Goulbourn area so we know we are
 supporting “Aussie Dairy Farmers”

We use Jonesy’s Milk and Cream.
We know that their milk undergoes minimal processing
and they don’t add anything to the milk or take anything
away. So we know we are using real “Milk & Cream”
( don’t be shy to ask us for a taste)

We use Raw and Brown sugar in all of our cakes where
we can, so you don’t have to feel guilty eating them!!!

We also use Callebaut Cocoa powder in all our
 delicious chocolate cupcakes.

So there you have it, now you know why our
‘Little Cakes’ taste so good and are good for you!!!!

ENJOY,

JAZZ & ARIANNE XX

<![CDATA[I'm dreaming about cupcakes!]]>Mon, 15 Aug 2011 01:32:02 GMThttp://www.abunchofcakes.com.au/1/post/2011/08/im-dreaming-about-cupcakes.htmlWow, what a week. Thanks to the lovely Paul from Jump on It (part of Living Social), we were the feature offer last Friday. Our offer was 12 cupcakes for $19. Our usual price is $48, so you can work out what a great deal it was. Hold on to your hats - we sold over 250 DOZEN cupcakes. That's right people, that's 3000 of the babies! Jazzy and I are never going home again I think...

Every time I sit down to write this, the phone rings again - YAY.

As well as that bit of excitement, we have had some fun cakes to make. I thought I had already mentioned our Ninja Turtle, but it seems I haven't. Oh, I wish I had a brain that worked.

<![CDATA[Where does the time go???]]>Mon, 18 Jul 2011 00:31:23 GMThttp://www.abunchofcakes.com.au/1/post/2011/07/where-does-the-time-go.html

I'm baaack!

I thought I was going to be able to blog everyday, but good old life got in the way (as usual)...

Despite a quiet week of cake orders, it was school holidays and the love of my life decided it was time to become demanding. What is it about kids that they more they get, the more they want?? At this point I could start to sound like my mother with the old "it wasn't like that in my day", but seriously, what would that achieve?

Having said that, we did manage to produce a couple of beautiful cakes, including the beautiful babies we did for Chrissie Swan's baby shower.

Lucky for me, the beautiful Jen Lenne at Network Ten in South Yarra remembers me from the old days of "9am" and commissioned me to produce cucpcakes for the baby shower that was held on "The Circle" last Friday. Nothing I like more than a good challenge, so I made babies, all with different faces, colours, clothes etc. My favourite was the grumpy little girl with a red nose! But they were soooo cute and so much fun to make. Photos will be following.

I also made a cake for a tenth birthday with the Harry Potter theme. The first thing that sprang to mind when the birthday girl's mother mentioned HP was an owl. Jazz thought I was mad - why an owl when there are so many other iconic creatures/things! On thursday when we had a shop full of people, I did a quick survey. Obviously I was off on my own tangent as no-one else mentioned an owl. There were wands, wizard's hats, quiddich (sp??) sticks, broomsticks, spell books, Harry's specs etc, so with all that in mind, I still went with the owl, but added the Sorting Hat and Harry's specs. It looked great and I hope that Lois had a great birthday.

With orders out of the way, it was time to whip up some yummy cupcakes for the shop. We had a lady in who was waiting for a table at the Duchess of Spotswood who declared that Red Velvet were her favourite ever cakes, so I thought that in the time it would take to wait for the table and then have her lunch I could conjure up some for her. So they were waiting for her on her return as well as the perennial favourite, the Choc-Salted Caramel! I don't think we will ever not be able to have them in the shop, our customers love them.

I was also lucky enough to have a visit from my old friends Vicki and Mark Dudley from Newport. Isn't it silly that we lose touch with people that we have so much in common with and that we get on so well with. I guess it's just a consequence of our busy lives. So we went had a great coffee from Mies Coffee Bar across the road and caught up on the last 2-3 years. There was so much food to discuss (only my favourite topic). I heard all about the fabulous final night dinner at Vue de Monde before the move to the Rialto Tower (green eyed monster was lurking...) and all their recent food adventures. We have made plans to venture to Kyneton one Sunday in the near future as I think it has some amazing places to see. I can't remember the name of it, but I had some great terrine from a newish place up there when my mother was here recently. Jazz and Linz are off on a day trip there today, so I have sent them in search of the place. Terrine for lunch tomorrow hopefully!

One day soon I may have to get Jazz on here as at the moment we seem to be leaning heavily in the direction of cakes and food. There are some beautiful flowers around right now and she has the front of the shop looking great.

Also, we are approaching wedding season, so will soon have some new pics up of our bridal work.

Stay tuned for more from A Bunch of Cakes...

<![CDATA[A Bunch of Cakes - Now Blogging!!]]>Mon, 04 Jul 2011 07:59:02 GMThttp://www.abunchofcakes.com.au/1/post/2011/07/a-bunch-of-cakes-now-blogging.htmlHi everyone, as you may have noticed, we have done some major work on the website (thx Lindsay) and I hope to get to this blog on a regular basis.

The shop is looking great at the moment, despite the fact that it is winter and the flower selection at the market is not as extensive as at other times of the year. Nonetheless, Jazzy has some great (and unusual) stuff, including ornamental kale, some beautiful artichokes and the first of the new season gymea lilies. Some of the foliage around right now is spectacular in its own right (think magnolia branches, just coming into bud) and other interesting branches.

With the weather getting colder, we seem to be spending more time in the kitchen (it's the warmest place in the shop) and those 0ld-fashioned favourites are topping our "to-do" list. Think lumberjack (apple & date) cupcakes, spiced apple and lots of cakes using brown sugar - it's a definite winter winner. Thanks to Ari for that delicious cinnamon cake recipe - it will be making an appearance this week for sure!

The last few weeks have also seen some beautiful cakes produced. I think I say it every week, but they are some of my absolute favourites. We topped a dark choc ganached lumberjack cake with the most amazing arrangement of berried ivy, sea holly and dodevine. It was dark and moody and very organic - we loved it and so did the customer. We'll post the photo very shortly.

Also, the lovely Erin's 21st birthday cake - a flourless chocolate extravaganza, topped with red lilies to match her red party dress - spectacular.

But I think my absolute favourite for the weekend was for Kristene in Williamstown who ordered a cupcake tower for Morgan's 1st birthday. We combined vanilla and chocolate cupcakes and a flourless orange topper cake with gorgeous pinky green roses and rose leaves straight out of Myra's garden. It was so elegant that I thought it wouldn't have been out of place at a wedding. Again, we'll post those pics asap.

Alas, my other job is calling (the 6 year old one) and dinner must arrive on the table shortly. Stay tuned
